An eye examination should tell us far more than simply what glasses you need.
At Farmilo Optometrist, we combine a thorough eye examination with advanced diagnostic technology to build a detailed picture of both your vision and your eye health.
Our aim isn’t simply to find a prescription that helps you read the chart. It’s to understand your eyes properly, establish accurate baseline measurements and identify subtle changes that may need monitoring — sometimes before you’ve noticed anything yourself.
Modern technology allows us to examine your eyes in ways that simply weren’t possible with a traditional eye examination.
At Farmilo, we’ve invested in advanced diagnostic equipment including our 4D HD Eye Scan, ZEISS i.Profiler, Azul Optics MP-Eye and Nidek digital refraction technology.
Technology doesn’t replace the expertise of your optometrist. It gives us more information to work with.
Some eye conditions can begin to cause subtle structural changes before you notice any change in your vision.
Our 4D HD Eye Scan uses advanced Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology to produce highly detailed cross-sectional images of the retina, macula and optic nerve.
Unlike simply looking at the surface of the retina, our 4D HD Eye Scan allows your optometrist to examine the individual layers and structures within the back of your eye in remarkable detail.
This can reveal subtle abnormalities that may not yet be apparent during a conventional eye examination.
For some eye diseases, structural changes can develop well before noticeable symptoms occur. This makes our 4D HD Eye Scan extremely valuable for earlier detection and ongoing monitoring.
The 4D HD Eye Scan is particularly useful when assessing and monitoring conditions such as:
Our 4D HD Eye Scan is powered by Heidelberg Engineering SPECTRALIS technology, providing highly detailed imaging and sophisticated follow-up capabilities.
One of the biggest advantages of the 4D HD Eye Scan is our ability to establish a detailed baseline of your eyes.
Your 4D HD Eye Scan images and measurements can then be compared with future examinations, helping us look for subtle changes and trends over time.
So rather than simply asking:
“Do your eyes look healthy today?” we can also ask:
“Have your eyes changed since we last saw you?”
For some eye conditions, structural changes may be detectable before symptoms develop — potentially well before you become aware that anything is wrong.
The earlier a significant change is identified, the sooner we can investigate it, monitor it or refer you for further assessment and treatment where appropriate.
The MP-Eye from Azul Optics allows us to measure your macular pigment. Macular pigment is concentrated within the macula — the small, specialised part of your retina responsible for detailed central vision.
It is made up predominantly of the carotenoids lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin, which are obtained through our diet.
Measuring macular pigment gives us additional information that can form part of a wider conversation about macular health, nutrition and lifestyle.
Where appropriate, we can discuss evidence-based dietary and lifestyle measures that may help support long-term eye health.
Not every eye with the same spectacle prescription sees in exactly the same way.
The ZEISS i.Profiler provides detailed objective measurements of your eye’s refractive characteristics, including optical aberrations that aren’t represented by a conventional spectacle prescription alone.
These measurements give your optometrist additional information when assessing your vision and can also be used with compatible ZEISS spectacle lens technology to create highly personalised lenses.
For patients who demand excellent vision — particularly in more challenging lighting conditions — these additional measurements can be especially valuable.
Your prescription isn’t simply a number generated by a machine.
Our Nidek RT-5100 is an advanced digital refracting system that allows your optometrist to compare very small differences in lens power quickly and precisely.
You’ll still be asked the familiar:
“Which is clearer — one or two?” But modern digital technology allows us to control and refine those comparisons precisely.
Combined with your responses, objective measurements and the experience of your optometrist, this helps us determine the prescription that provides the most comfortable and useful vision for you.
Before deciding whether your prescription has changed, it helps to know exactly what you’re currently wearing. We measure the lenses in your existing glasses using a focimeter.
This tells us the prescription in your current spectacles so we can compare it directly with the results of your new examination.
It’s particularly useful when deciding whether a change in prescription is significant enough to make replacing your lenses worthwhile.
Because your eyes deserve more than a quick check.
By combining an experienced optometrist with advanced diagnostic technology, we can build a much more complete picture of your eyesight and eye health.
We’re looking at:
For us, an eye examination isn’t simply about deciding whether you need new glasses.
It’s about understanding your eyes today, detecting important changes as early as possible and monitoring your eye health for the future.
At Farmilo Optometrist, we’ve invested in advanced technology because we believe a modern eye examination should do more than simply determine your glasses prescription.
Whether you’re concerned about your eye health, have a family history of eye disease, have noticed a change in your vision or simply want a more comprehensive assessment of your eyes, we’re here to help.
Experience precision with AI-enhanced OCT scans, detecting issues a decade early.
Give your eyes the attention they deserve.
